Nano coatings for home electronics

Small preview imageDisplayer and home electronics with scratches is hardly news, and as mobile phones and MP3 players goes out of and into pockets all the time they are real high risk objects. Something Apple had to experience when it launched its iPod Nano. When it launched a black version of iPod you realized why it had kept it white before, you could see all the scratches! However now it seems that a solution is on the way; “nano coatings”, a substance consisting out of special particles that will adhese to a surface and protect it from pretty much everything; from water to direct hits that can cause scratches. To spray on the protection yourself, on e.g. your iPod, to make it more scratch resistant sounds like a pretty good idea to be honest. However Ecology Coatings has higher plans than that and says that one of the goals is to make regular paper waterproof.

The nano coatings, “liquid solids” composed of extremely tiny particles, possess unique characteristics — like extreme flexibility, easy adhesion and resistance to corrosion and microbial growth — that could profoundly change the manufacturing process.

If it will e able to launch a commercial version of spray remains to see, but it has potential to become one of the greater inventions we’ve seen in many years.
