AMD Socket AM2 sports DDR2 800MHz

0

Socket
AM2
is expected to arrive in a few months and will
bring among other things support for DDR2-SDRAM. Today AMD relies on the DDR400
standard for its processor series, which is a weakness to many, especially since
Intel offers up to 667MHz through the DDR2 technology. It seems that AMD has
felt it has been a bit stingy in past and therefore Socket AM2 will support up
to DDR2 800MHz from the start. That is a considerable amount of bandwidth that
will beat the crap out of anything remotely similar to overclocked DDR1
memories. IHow AMD’s integrated memory controller will handle the DDR2-SDRAM and
if it will be able to hide the technology’s high latencies remains to be seen.
