Playstation 3 costs $800 to make

PlayStation 3 is expected to become a fully fledged multimedia machine where, just as with Sony PSP, the gaming is just one part of the experience. However not everyone is happy about the current development at Sony, mainly because this makes them more expensive. The analysts at Merrill Lynch has now released a detailed report that should make most consumers break down and cry! According to this report each PlayStation 3 consol will cost $800 to make, you can compare that to Xbox 360’s core system at $299. PlayStation 3 will not cost $1000 when it hits the shelves though, as most game consoles are sold as a loss, but if this is correct the price will be higher than Xbox 360 at least.

The big hog here is as expected the console’s optical Blu-ray player that is expected to cost almost $350, that is only the player! The Cell processor costs a bit as well; $230 and that lands us at a total of $800.

That PlayStation 3 will be an impressive console is a given to many, but first Sony has to beat both time and costs before we will know for sure.
