Matrox launch F1400 – remote graphics unit

Matrox has earlier today announced a very interesting and at the same time odd product, maybe because it’s the first of its kind. It is a remote graphics unit, you perhaps think of a KVM switch, but that’s not quite what we have here. Here we have a unit that will be able to separate keyboard, mouse and monitor from the rest with up to 250m (820ft.) through fiber-optics. Inside the unit we find 128MB graphics memory and it offers a lot of in- and outputs: 6 USB, 4 DVI-I, both digital and analog sound outputs, plus mic input, line in and line out. Focus is of course on the 4 DVI-I ports and the potential buyers are hardly gamers, even though the experience would be truly amazing, but professional users. Although, who knows, maybe there is a potential buyer among our readers.

To meet different slot requirements, Matrox separately offers PCI or PCI Express (PCIe) fiber-optic interface cards for Extio products.”
