NAND flash is the hottest technology available today and we’ve seen not only how the technology has been integrated into most portable units but also stationary harddrive and similar. The latter is perhaps the most interesting to most consumers, a completely electronic harddrive, but that will not happen for some time though. Anyway, NAND flash has received even more attention now that chip giant Intel has joined with NAND flash manufacturer Micron to venture into NAND flash development. Intel has paid no less than $270 millions for Micron’s NAND flash technology and chip design. Together it has created the company IM Flash Technologies LLC where owns 51% and Intel the remaining 49%. In other words Intel has taken a big step onto the NAND flash market and this is, if anything, a clear sign that there is a big future for the technology. We will most likely hear more about NAND flash the upcoming years and hopefully the first consumer harddrive based on NAND flash. Source: EE Times UK
