We recently reported about a discovery by a group of German modersas they didsected Microsoft’s video game console Xbox 360. They found a metal film under the GPU cooler which looked like a forgotten protective film for the cooling paste and would perhaps be a clue to the console’s first problems with overheating. As all systems did not have these it seemed like a mistake where someone forgot to remove the film during the installation. New information states however, from a MS controlled blog, that the metal film is suppose to be there and the conductive material use by MS is Thermflow T558. At the same time we wonder why more companies haven’t chosen to use the material if it is as good as they claim. E.g. why even Microsoft chose to use regular cooling paste with the CPU inside Xbox 360 and not the film. The Xbox 360’s instability and overheasting issues still remain a bit foggy.
