Intel will cut the price of its Pentium D series during the third quarter hoping to boost sales of its Media Center platform VIIV, which use this processor series in many cases. With lower prices for Pentium D the price of the mid-range systems would be lowered and end up at a much more competitive level. That is at least what Taiwanese system builders think and hope. Several system builders such as AOpen, Acer and Shuttle have already launched VIIV systems and they hope to increase their sales as the prices go down. Many consumes are supposedly interested in Media Center systems, but the prices are holding them back. Among others Pentium D 950 is expected to be lowered from $316 to $241. Source: DigiTimes
