Dell has now acquired PC builder Alienware just as rumors stated a few weeks ago and now it has finally sent out a press release making it official. From “denying” it about a week ago the purchase is now a fact and to begin with there has been no real changes, except that Alienware’s site now looks very similar to Dell’s.

“Dell announced today it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Alienware to further satisfy the growing number of consumers and businesses seeking the highest-performance PC products, including those used for gaming and multimedia digital content management. Terms of the planned purchase will not be disclosed.”

Dell and Alienware will work indepentantly of eachother and keep its own product development, marketing, support and brand. Alienware will still be a controlled by the same people but as a subsidiary to  Dell.

Whether this means that Dell will hold back its own high-end XPS series remains to be seen, but it sure doesn’t seem like considering the monster system it launched yesterday.
