Socket AM3 in 2007

0

We are currently waiting for AMD to launch its Socket AM2, its first platform sporting DDR2. During CeBIT rumors started to appear about the next platform from AMD, named, as expected, Socket AM3. Socket AM3 might namely appear already in 2007, I.e. next year, and then it will bring support for DDR3, which hasn’t even arrived yet. This information is of course unofficial, but at the same time we know that AMD has had plans for integrating support for DDR3 for a long time as DDR3 has appeared in roadmaps labeled “coming soon” several times. A Socket AM3 launch next year is therefore a bit logic, but at the same time worrying as we as the consumers don’t want to switch platform every now and then.
