Sony UMD about to die?

Sony UMD, Universal Media Disc, is the format the portable game console Sony PSP uses, both for games and movies. The latter use has been a real bomb though as the number of UMD movies sold have been very few. According to Paramount Pictures Home Entertainment that has more or less dropped the UMD market no company is able to make ends meet. An anonymous chief at Universal Studios Home Entertainment, that has also dropped the UMD market, took the opportunity to whack Sony for promoting its own formats and the UMD sales.

“It’s awful. Sales are near zilch. It’s another Sony bomb — like Blu-ray.”
