Perpendicular Recording good for both performance and reliability

0

Seagate is one of the harddrive manufacturers that has high hopes for the Perpendicular Recording technology to increase the storage capacity of the HDDs. By storing data vertically on the harddrive’s platters you can store more data on the same area, but this isn’t the only advantage with the technology according to Seagate. With higher density comes both faster transfer rates and faster positioning of the read/write head. Seagate has also noticed that the technology results in better reliability, exactly what or why is not revealed though. Seagate seems to have great faith in the new technology and will introduce the new technology with practically all of its products in 2007.
