Socket AM2 processor and motherboard pictures

Socket AM2 will within a month be AMD’s new processor platform that will span and cover the entire assortment and despite switching memory system to DDR2-SDRAM the differences compared to today’s Socket 939 platform are relatively few. Now more pictures of AMD’s coming platform has usurfaced as T-Break.com has posted both pictures of the processor, next to a Socket 939 processor, where you can see the physical pin differences. They’ve also published a photo of one of the few motherboards that has been officially announced for Socket AM2, namely MSI K9N Platinum SLI. They’ve also published a picture with processor and cooler installed on the motherboard and they’ve chosen to use a regular Socket 939 cooler. If this means that Socket AM2 is backwards compatible with Socket 939 coolers it is indeed a positive surprise.
