Sony Pictures has now decided to postpone the launch of Blu-ray movies that was expected to happen at the end of May. It has now decided to not release the Blu-ray media until the end of June simply because there will not be any Blu-ray players until then.

“But the majority of our retail base and hardware partners have requested that we reconsider this date to better coincide with the first commercially available Blu-ray-compatible hardware,”

Also Warner Home Video is expected to launch several Blu-ray movies at the same time, but exactly which hasn’t been revealed. The delayed launch is very similar to the one HD DVD experienced earlier, but then the movies weren’t ready and the player’s had to be delayed.

This could perhaps mean that Blu-ray will have more movies available when the format arrives but at the same time we should be able to expect not just more expensive players, but also movies with higher prices. Sony Pictures will release the following movies on June 20;

“Underworld Evolution”, “50 First Dates,” “The Fifth Element,” “Hitch,” “House of Flying Daggers,” “A Knight’s Tale,” “The Last Waltz,” “Resident Evil Apocalypse” and “XXX.”
