LCD monitors with LED backlighting are becoming more and more common and new studies suggests that it will become the standard this year. LED backlighting makes it possible to make thinner and more energy efficient monitors, while the contrast ratio also improves with the LED technology. Among notebooks the technology has come a long way where the low space requirements makes LED a perfect fit.
In 2010 they expect 60-70 percent of all notebooks to ship with LED-backlit LCDs. As the mount of LED-backlit LCD panels increase, regular monitors are expected make use of it to a much higher degree. Even if there will still be a noticeable price hike with LED-backlit monitors, compared to the older CCFL technology.
