The SuperPi killer – Merom

0

Small preview imageAbout a week ago we saw what Intel’s Yonah processor is capable of as Tyrou set a new SuperPi world record, beating the crap out of Pentium 4s overclocked far beyond 7GHz. Now the successor to Intel’s Yonah, Merom, has stepped up and set a completely new standard, and this has been done using just water cooling! It’s the well known Japanese overclocker Kyosen that has taken a 2.16GHz T7400 Merom to 3.27GHz, which finally resulted in a SuperPi 1M time at 15.468 seconds. A new world record, no doubt about that.

As we said before, this overclock was achieved by just using water cooling and has to be considered a good indication for what we can expect from Intel’s coming desktop processor. The only difference when it comes to the specifications is that Conroe will use a higher system bus, which can only affect the performance in a positive way.
