Cooler Express “Hydra” SLI Triple Evaporator Cooling Unit is the long name of the phase change cooler that has now appeared at FrozenCPU.com. This cooler has been specially designed to be used by demanding enthusiasts who has invested in a SLI or Crossfire system and wants to cool more than the processor in the most efficient manner. Hydra, which we shall call the system from now on, has namely not one, not two, but three separate evaporators (“heads”) so that you can cool both your CPU and two video cards with the same cooling setup. It’s not the first time we bump into phase change setups with dual, or triple evaporators, but then it has been home made systems. This is a commercial system that brings overclocking to a whole new level for those who can’t build their own setups.

The compressor use R410 medium and is suppose to keep the temperatures at the evaporator between -48C° and -52C°. According to FrocenCPU’s own tests there doesn’t seem to be any problems with the increased heat development as they managed to keep an Athlon 64 FX-57 processor below -30C° during load, while the two GeForce 7800GT video cards stays at about -30C° during longer loads. How the system handles even more aggrssive heat development is something we would like to see, but still a very intersting solution for those who wants to cool their SLI/Crossfire system. The price is perhaps not as attractive, $1,999, as the whole concept.
