OCZ has launched a new series of memory modules called S.O.E., Special Ops Edition. As the name implies the RAM module series has been inspired by the military, but it’s not because of the extreme specifications or lethal performance. OCZ has simply used a camoflaged heatspreader with the new modules, no more, no less. The memories will be at 1GB a piece and will run at DDR-400, DDR2-667 and DDR2-800 speeds. The latencies are hardly astonishing at 2.5-3-3-8, 4-4-4-12 and 5-5-5-12 at the respective speed. Despite that OCZ claims that a 2GB S.O.E. memory kit is the optimal choice for gamers playing such games as Battlefield 2, Half Life 2, Quake 4 etc.
Even if the performance may not be optimal with OCZ’s “military memory” the prices are suppose to be very competitive. The S.O.E. modules hasn’t appeared in any stores yet as far as we know, but from what it seems they may just be hiding in the bushes…
