Core Duo U2500 looks to be something out of the ordinary, not because of exceptional performance but because of the minimal power consumption. The information that has appeared about Intel’s new Yonah-based Core Duo U2500 processor says that it is a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with a 533MHz FSB and 2MB L2 cache. Thanks to its low frequency and the 65nm manufacturing process Intel has been able to reach a TDP (Thermal Design Power) at 9W. Intel has earlier had Ultra Low Voltage models in its series of Pentium M processors with TDPs at 10W, but then only single-core models. Intel’s product plans reveal that it will launch ULV models of its mobile Merom processors which could be used in even the most power efficient portable systems.
