Seagate divides Maxtor’s assets

Seagate will perhaps not butcher Maxtor after acquiring the competing company but if this new information is correct it will at least fire more than 50% of Maxtor’s current employees. At the same time it will keep the Maxtor brand and some of its services. But the harddrive assortment will be severely crippled as the only remaining drives will be Maxtor’s 3.5″ 10,000 RPM SAS harddrives and its 500GB SATA models. Other models will be dismissed, together with a large portion of the workforce. Most of the people that will lose their jobs reside in North America. In Asia, where Maxtor’s brand is stronger, Seagate is expected to keep a larger portion of the employees.
