Intel will launch a number of Conroe-based processors on July 23 2006 and among these Core 2 Duo models there is one who reallly stands out. Namely Core 2 Extreme which is the equivalent to today’s Pentium Extreme Edition. Intel has settled for a frequency at 2.93GHz for Core 2 Extreme which will be launched on July 23, earlier rumors stated frequencies at up to 3.3GHz with the Core 2 Extreme model. But now Intel has announced that it will launch an even meaner model of Core 2 Extreme before the end of the year and this one will be clocked at 3.2GHz.
Just as AMD’s Athlon 64 FX serie Intel’s Extreme series really is something extreme, both as few can actually afford one and the performance is just staggering. First up for the Conroe family is the 2.93GHz model which will be sold under then name Core 2 Duo X6800, but it is already decided that there will be even better models later this year.
