Intel Itanium 2 is better known by its code-name Montecito and this rocessor is truly something out of the ordinary. It is the first Itanium processor with multiple cores and the two cores are backed up by a massive cache at 24MB (!). Intel had to use an unimaginable 1.7 billion transistors to create this extreme server processor and we can guarantee that it will dissipate a lot of heat. During DreamHack we had the chance to get some nice close-ups of Intel’s new server monster, not the processor itself but thew actual die.

This is a processor very few actually will get to see in real life, not to mention the undressed sample Intel had to show. So take a moment and enjoy the fine engineering by Intel in the form of Itanium 2 Montecito.
