Dell’s timing when it comes to the introduction of AMD-based computer systems has been a hot topic ever since Dell announced that it will launch Opteron-based servers. One of the possible reasons that has been mentioned is a concern for a poor supply of Intel’s circuits, but now other information has surfaced. According to DigiTimes a lot of Dell’s actions has been thanks to the pricing of Intel’s processors. Intel has simply retracted its rebates for large orders from OEM manufacturers, something that will be quite noticeable at Dell. one of Intel’s biggest customers.
Now it has been said that Dell’s partnership with AMD is used as an arguement by Dell to pressure Intel to lower its prices. If Dell will not receive the rebates it has before it is most likely that it will introduce AMD-based systems for both the desktop and the mobile market.
“In May, Dell announced that it will introduce servers based on AMD chips. A few days later, Intel told Taiwan-based makers that it will begin offering OEM and channel players the same prices and that it will stop offering rebates to OEMs that place large-quantity orders. The new “equal price” scheme is expected to take effect in September.”
