Filesharing is a truly hot subject, not the least considering the recent fiasco with PirateBay. Spain has now decided to be even harsher than the Swedish police was and simply outlaw all forms of unauthorized peer-to-peer filesharing, even the form that would fall inside the so called “fair use” clauses. While P2P becomes itself becomes illegal it will also be illegal for ISPs to offer services that makes it possible to use P2P. Spain has had a 500% increase of its Internet traffic during the last five years and 71% of this traffic is made up from P2P. MPA was of course pleased and quick to applaud the Spaniards’ progression.
“Compared to some European countries, Spain has some way to go in enforcement, but the new intellectual property law is a definite step forward, placing obligations for instance on ISPs to provide information. Hopefully, it will help us to get some injunctions,”
At the same time they introduce a tax on all recordable media (DVD, CD, etc) which will be used to pay reparations to the artists for lost income. hardly chocking to us Swedes as we’ve had such a tax for nearly 20 years now…
