Google has become so big it is starting to get scary. Its search engine is the biggest one around and the most frequently used worldwide and it is through Google that many pages gets most of their visitors. So if Google would lower the page rank of a site it would mean that the site would lose a lot of its visitors. That is what KinderStart.com now says after noticing a huge drop among the monthly visitors (70% disappeared) since March of last year when their ranking dropped. KinderStart says that Google discriminates KinderStart as they also offer a search engine, although geared towards family matters.
There have been similar cases before, but none have resulted in a conviction and the most likely is that this will not either. The earlier cases have been won as they’ve made comparisons to authors’ rights to express their opinions in reviews of books, movies etc. Thus they have the right to express and grade any page any way they like. That solely Google can have such a hige impact on a site’s visitor count is a bit scary though.
