BenQ BW1000 has just been announced as BenQ’s first Blu-ray writer and the suffix “Trio” reveals that the unit uses three different lasers supporting the major portion of all present format, CD, DVD and Blu-ray. BenQ BW1000 also comes with technologies such as Precision Tilt Control Sytem (PTCS), SolidBurn and Write Right for optimal results when burning and playing optical media. Just as the other first generation Blu-ray writers BW1000 offers a burn speed at 2x for BD-R/-RE media (single layer). The writer also comes with fully respectable specifications for DVD and CD burning, even if these can’t compete wth units developed primarily for these tasks.

“The BW1000 features writing speeds of 2x for BD-R/-RE single-layer and DL (single-sided double-layer) discs, 12x for DVD+R/-R, 4x for DVD+R/-R DL, 8x for DVD+RW/-RW, 32x for CD-R and 24x for CD-RW, as well as reading speeds of 2x for Blu-ray, 12x for DVD and 32x for CD-R, according to BenQ. The drive will be also able to write on double-layer BD-R/-RE media (50GB) at 1x, with a firmware upgrade.”

To make it even easier to handle the burner it has integrated specific LEDs for what laser and format the writer is using. BenQ BW1000 is expected to appear on the market at the end of August costing about $1000. BenQ seems to have done will with the design as well as the writer looks anything but old and beige.
