Apple has for a long time been pressuring the court trying to find out who leaked information about a yet not launched product to AppleInsider earlier this year. It has been focusing on whether a person that publishes so called news in an online media is a journalist or not and therefore not protected by the same laws as journalists are, e.g. regarding their sources’ protection. The court did not agree with Apple and declined it’s suggestion. Now Apple has decided to give up the search for the leak. If this is the real ending of the whole ordeal remains to be seen, but we’ve at least established that in California also bloggers and other online news writers are counted as journalists. A step up for online media, no doubt.
