We’ve earleir reported about Intel’s plans to trash its “Desktop CPU on Server Platform” concept and that it will instead introduce a new introduction model with its Xeon program. Xeon 3000 will be the name of the new processor family and will be used with single processor server systems together with the chipsets Intel 3000/3010. Xeon 3000 is just as Core 2 Duo based on the Conroe architecture and it is really nothing but the name that separates these two processors. But just that could mean that Intel has the possibility to establish a better position on the server market seen to the number of shares.
In the battle against AMD’s Opteron Pentium D namely doesn’t count as a server processor and it is because of not wanting to lose unnecessary marketshares because of processor names that it will now launch Xeon 3000, which will have a positive effect on Intel’s marketshares. At HKEPC they’ve mananged to get a hold of roadmaps showing what processor models Intel is about to introduce with the Xeon 3000 family and its prices, which seems to be up to par with the desktop equivalent, Core 2 Duo.
