Apple’s real video iPod will perhaps not arrive until next year according to our latest reports, but when it does it seems it will contain several interesting components. Rumors of a massive display have been going around for some time now, simply to sport better video playback and now it seems that the display will also be used for 3D graphics, perhaps even 3D games. According to analysts at American Technology Research Apple has namely chosen NVIDIA as partner when it comes to the graphics circuit found in the new video iPod. NVIDIA has been chosen instead of Broadcom which supplies the current generation of Apple iPods with graphics circuits for handling the video playback.
According to analyst Satya Chillara it is just the 3D functionality that raises NVIDIA’s circuit above the Broadcom equivalent, which should mean that it has something extra in mind. Apple has according to Ars Technica also shown interest in game development by searching for programmers and game developers for a project that has been closely associated with iTunes Music Store. If we are to interpret these indications as Apple actually having serious plans to introduce gaming functions with its video iPod it could be a revolution on the media player market as also Microsoft seems to be going for a portable multimedia/gaming unit named Zune.
