The HDMI interface has had a great breakthrough on the home electronics and on the PC market the HDMI interface is about to become an alternative to VGA and DVI. Several competing interfaces have appeared, where DisplayPort is looking especially promising. One of the great advantages with DisplayPort would be its low or near-zero license fee. HDMI is known for being an expensive interface with an annual fee of 15 000 USD. This is a lot of money to many smaller manufacturers and now the HDMI Licensing company claims that it has had such a great breakthrough that it is ready to lower the license fees, from $15 000 to $10 000 after November 1 2006. Hopefully this means the integration on the PC market will speed up.
