LG announced in March that it would look into the possibilities to also support Blu-ray’s competing format HD DVD. An interesting step for LG, which earlier was a faithful Blu-ray follower. It announced that it would go for a dual-format player that would be able to handle both HD DVD and Blu-ray, on the side of its Blu-ray specific units. Now it seems that it has given up on this idea and will once again go solely with Blu-ray. It has announced that the plans for a combo player have been trashed but it has not released any specific information about when its BD199 player for the Blu-ray format will be launched.
