Asustek, better known as ASUS, is the biggest motherboard manufacturer, “without competition”, on the market and one of its biggest competitors is Gigabyte Technology. Now rumors state that ASUS actually has plans for acquiring Gigabyte as the competitor has shown great strength in the distribution department. Even if ASUS is unthreatened on the retail market Foxconn has been closing up on ASUS total motherboard sales through its presence on the OEM market. By acquiring Gigabyte, ASUS would further strengthen its position and control up to 45% of the total motherboard market. Both ASUS and Gigabyte denies the rumors.
