Secure Digital, SD, memories are often used by digital cameras and can store large amounts of data on a small surface. To be able to transfer data from a SD card or a digital camera you need a connection between the camera and the computer, or remove the memory card and fit into a memory card reader. Both solutions are relatively simple to perform and work well when you work from home. Howeve, it’s quite easy to forget to bring the USB cable for the camera and perhaps visit a friend without a card reader. OCZ now says it has launched a series of SD memory cards that will change this and make it easier to access the data.
OCZ Secure Digital™ “Dual” is the name of the new series of SD cards and as the name implies they have dual functions. They work just as a regular SD memory card but through small a flick of the wrist you can connect it to a computer’s USB port.
“OCZ’s unique SD Dual cards introduce the ultimate convenience of an SD card and USB adaptor in one unit. Unlike conventional SD memory, OCZ SD Dual converts into a high-speed USB 2.0 connector eliminating the need for an independent card reader to transfer or view pictures or data on any PC.”
This seems like a very convenient solution and the question is how much they will cost when they appear in stores. If the prices difference compared to regular SD memory cards OCZ could have a winner here. OCZ has announced that the new meory cards will arrive at 1GB and 2GB capacities and sport transfer speeds up to 80X.
