ASUS R2H is the latest UMPC to reach the market, a market which was on everybodies lips a few months back. Ultra-Mobile PC is a concept that can be descibed as something in between a PDA and a laptop. The thought is to offer a complete PC experience while at the same time keep the size at a minimum. Samsung was the first to launch an UMPC but the race many have been waiting for have more less halted altogether. Samsung has not had any real success with its UMPC and what’s holding the concept back is the relatively short battery time and other problems due to an immature platform. Recently another great actor chose to follow and it is ASUS with its R2H unit.
ASUS R2H use a 7″ LCD touchscreen display for simple navigation. The power of the unit is comes from an Intel Celeron M ULV processor which should consume very little power and hopefully result in better battery time. Other interesting functions include wireless network (802.11g), 100Mbit Ethernet, Bluetooth 2.0, SD card reader, 20GB-60GB harddrive and 256MB RAM. ASUS has also fitted the unit with a 1.3Mpixel web camera and integrated GPS functions. ASUS R2H measures 23.4 x 13.3 x 2.8cm and weighs a little less than a kilo, 830g.
