The high resolution movie formats HD DVD and Blu-ray have both arrived on at least parts of the market, but despite the huge hype surrounding the two new optical formats and the image and audio quality they offer the sales have been rather poor. None of the formats are selling as well as predicted and the reason is mainly the uncertainty regarding what format to pick. What many indicated as a big problem for HD DVD and Blu-ray if they didn’t team up and create one format has now become real.
In an article published by Reuters they write that Blu-ray which was looking very strong before its launch has been hurt by the negative reports about the format’s image quality but also by the fact that no 50GB discs are available yet. The HD formats are pretty much staying completely still at the moment and the question is when and if this will change.
