Apple has with its family of iPods almost created a genre of its own when it comes portable multimedia players. iPod isn’t just a product but a whole brand and almost a lifestyle. Practically everyone who wants to be recognized has one, ranging from celebrities to kids at school. Apple has been dominting the MP3 player market completely and no competitor is even remotely close. Well now the sales have started to go off track and ironically it could be the success of the iPod that has become its own achilles heal. With most “fashion statements” the actual statement starts to wear off when everyone has “the lastest thing” and this is just what has happened to iPod.

At The Observer they’ve published an article about the difficulties Apple is about to face and how important Apple’s special event on September 12 (tomorrow) will be. Interesting reading for those who who wants to know more about what could threaten Apple and its dominance on the PMP market.
