Microsoft going for Xbox 360 + HD DVD player package?

Microsoft has for long denied that it will cut any prices with its video game console Xbox 360 Premium even though both Nintendo and Sony will launch its new consoles in November, at least in parts of the world. According to GamesIndustry.biz it seems MS is sticking to this decision and is instead going for a package solution. It’s not just games and other minor accessories which we’ve heard about. Nope, it’s a Xbox 360 Premium package including the coming external HD DVD player. The external HD DVD player is expected to cost $299 and will be shipped with two HD DVD movies. But as a package together with the Premium version of Xbox 360 we should be able to expect the relatively low price of $549, although $599 can not be ruled out.

This could mean that the HD DVD Xbox 360 package would be $50 cheaper than Sony’s Blu-ray-capable PlayStation 3 console, which is hardly a coincidence. Microsoft is also expected to launch another official Premium package with a coming game included. Even if Microsoft has chosen not to comment it seems the prices will remain the same, at least for the Premium version of the console. But the package deal with the external HD DVD player could be an interesting choice, especially to Euopeans which will not see PS3 for several more months.
