Core 2 Quadro seems to become the name of Intel’s coming processor series which we today refer to by its code-name Kentsfield. The processor series use four Core-based processor cores and that att Intel would chose the name Core 2 Quadro is more or less expected. The first model that will appear will be an Extreme model and will be launched as Core 2 Extreme QX6700. This truly extreme processor will according to multiple sources be launched during the middle of November and will then run at 2.66GHz.
It will be Intel’s new flagship on the gaming market and will be fighting AMD’s Athlon 64 FX-64 processor which will also be launched during the fourth quarter with a frequency of 3.0GHz.
The next quad-core processor for the desktop market will be launched during the first quarter of 2007 by the name Core 2 Quadro Q6600 and will work at 2.4GHz with 2x4MB L2 cache and processor bus at 1066MHz.
The Core 2 Quadro processors will work just fine with Intel’s 975X and P965 chipset but motherboards may need small alterations of the power supply to be able to deliver the right voltage for Intel’s new processor models.
