The tenth of March, Via Technologies announced the successor of their Apollo KT400 chipset; named KT400A (and not, as some rumours across the internet state: KT600). It is meant to compete with NVIDIA’s latest release, the nForce2 chipset.
OCworkbench gave a first preview of the Gigabyte 7VAXP-A. Apart from this new chipset, it also offers 6 channel sound, IDE raid, SATA, Firewire and USB 2.0. They gave the following comment on its performance:
”It is as fast or faster than the SiS 746FX but need some more tweaks to compete in performance with the nForce2. Both nForce2 and the KT400A boards are weak in disk performance resulting in a slower performance in Content Creation and Business Applications.”
