The HD DVD format has already had its copy protection cracked and last we reported about the first HD DVD movies leaking out on the web. The hacker muslix64 which mastered HD DVD’s AACS is back and has according to himself also managed to bypass the Blu-ray format’s AACS system. At Doom9’s forum muslix64 writes that he has developed a software for making backups of Blu-ray movies, although with some limitations. The movie muslix64 was working on was not protected by the BD+ copy protection and this has not been cracked. Exactly how close they are to breaking Blu-ray’s entire copy protection is uncertain, but it certainly seems that Blu-ray as well is in for a rough ride.
