ABIT AW8-MAX is the latest mainboard from ABIT in its enthusiast MAX-series. The mainboard is for Intel’s Pentium-platform and uses the Intel 955X chipset. Which means AW8-MAX will support LGA775-processors with a bus up to 1066MHz and dual channels with DDR2-667/533 memory. The card also supports high resolution sound (Dolby certified 7.1 channel HD Audio) with digital in- and outputs. With support for USB2.0 and firewire there is no lack for external interfaces and internally you will find 6 SATA-II ports that can be configured in different RAID-modes.
To meet today’s networking demands AW8-MAX has support for dual Gigabit Ethernet.
ABIT AW8-MAX is also the first mainboard using ABIT’s patented Silent OTES technology. A passive cooling for the northbridge. With a copperbase and heatpipes the heat is transfered from the chipset to a “radiator heatsink” that is cooled by the air coming from the processor cooler. We have managed to get hold of some high resolution pictures of the system.
We don’t have any price information on ABIT AW8-MAX yet but it really looks like an interesting mainboard. Especially for those who are tired of noicy chipsetfans.
