Universal ABIT recently sent out a press release of the more depressing kind. It has namely announced that it has to recall two of its new Socket AM2 motherboards, ABIT Fatal1ty AN9 32X and ABIT AN9 32X. Not all boards from these series have to be recalled but only parts of these, the earliest ones made have displayed hardware issues which can result in both degraded performance and instability in the future. “Universal abit firmly believes that only 100% is good enough for its customers, and continues to stand by its motto of delivering Advanced Durability to the user.” The motherboards affected by the recall have the following serial numbers: Fatal1ty AN9 32X: AN9 32X: The motherboards which are not affected by the recall have the following serial numbers. Fatal1ty AN9 32X: AN9 32X: ABIT will stand for all costs while it at the same time sends out its apologizes to all affected consumers. Not the best start for Universal ABIT but now that ABIT has also told us the specific reason for the recall we’re pretty sure this is not something that will happen again. “After a series of heavy testing programs, our Quality Control test department has found that a small number of units from the early manufacturing of the AN9 32X product line has a hardware issue caused by heatsink component displacement due to accidental rough handling during shipments. This will cause high temperatures and possible overheating. Therefore, Universal abit has chosen to recall those AN9 32X and Fatal1ty AN9 32X motherboards that have been affected by this accident. We wish to stress our Quality control is of the highest standard, and unfortunately accidents happen, and the moment we found out about the possibly damaged components being part of the line we have issued this callback. Please make sure that if your motherboard is within this consignment that you return it to be evaluated.”
