Acer P series launched – higher contrast ratios at a fair price

Acer has announced a new series of widescreen LCD monitors and the new P series contains four models; Acer P191Wd, P201Wd, P221Wd, and P241Wd are the names of the four models that are named after their individual sizes. The three first have both VGA and DVI inputs, while the flagship of the series, P241Wd, has been equipped with HDMI instead of DVI. The thing that separates the new P series from the current monitors is the higher contrast ratio. Acer has specified the contrast ratio of the four models in the range 2000:1 to 3000:1. Once again it’s the 24″ flagship that sports the best specifications, most high-end monitors have contrast ratios at about 1000:1 today.

Whether this is because of better panels or digital means we’re not sure. Anyway, Acer hasn’t had to sacrifice any response time. The 19″, 20″ and 22″ models all have a response time at 5 ms, while P241Wd has an ultra-low latency of 2 ms. Something we haven’t seen before with such a large monitor. The prices are also quite attractive, $229.99 for P191Wd, $269.99 for P201Wd, $329.99 for P221Wd, and $499.99 for P241Wd. Before jumping for joy we should await the first review, but they certainly look promising.
