Dell was the biggest PC builder around for many years, but in 2007 it was dethroned by Hewlett-Packard. Over the two years that has passed, HP has moved away from Dell with a today comfortable lead while Dell has been losing ground to the rest. Analysts are even going as far as saying that Dell, after 2009, will fall down to third place on the list of the world’s largest PC builders. Acer has caught up to Dell over the last year or so and even the result for the first quarter results weren’t that good, Acer still managed to gain on Dell.

Dell is showing dropping sales figures while Acer has moved in a more positive direction, considering the number of sold computers.

Even though Acer has lowered the expectations of its netbook sales, it’s the netbooks that have been the key to gaining on Dell. The netbook sales is also one of few markets that has remained least affected by the sloping economy, much thanks to the appealing price tags.

Analytics disagree on how big of a lead Dell has, but no matter how many times you flip the coin, it’s Acer standing there breathing down the neck of Dell.
