AGEIA that recently announced that its PhysX SDK will be made available for PlayStation 3 is at the moment on display at Game Developer Conference in San Jose to show off its PhysX graphics processor and it has already held a press conference where it displayed some technology demos and spoke of PhysX. At Firingsquad they’ve published an article about AGEIA’s press conference and we find out that the first PhysX cards will begin to sell today(!), from what it seems only through the PC builder Alienware though. Any information about when the PhysX cards will arrive on the regular consumer market wasn’t revealed though, not what the cards will cost either. Something we should be able to figure out later on as Alienware release the cards.
AGEIA also informed that it will cooperate with 60 different game developers and that over 100 game in 2006 and 2007 will support PhysX.
“The first games that will support the card will be Cryptic Studios’ superhero MMORPG City of Villains and the 2005 first person shooter Bet on Soldier. For City of Villains, the folks at Cryptic will actually have an AGEIA card in their servers to handle the really intense scenes of interaction in the game. The player will still have to have AGEIA’s PhysX card installed in their PC in order to see the effects.”
AGIEA PhysX technology demo
The first physics processor seems to be arriving earlier than we earlier thought and we are very eager to hear what will be said at GDC where AGEIA will have demo machines with PhysX cards available Day 2. We will most likely see some “hands-on” reports later on.
