Alienware presents new workstations during GDC 2007: MJ-12 8550i and MJ-12 8550a

Alienware is mainly known for its extreme gaming rigs that costs just as much. It has now decided to broaden its retail-oriented products with a couple of workstations: MJ-12 8550i and MJ-12 8550a. As the name implies, the first is based on an Intel system, but not just any Intel system but one based on Intel’s quad-core Xeon 5300 series and can be had with both 1 and 2 processors. This will result in up to 8 cores in the same system. The other model is based on AMD’s Opteron 2000 series and thus a few cores less, but the focus is instead on energy efficiency. Both systems uses 15,000rpm Serial Attached SCSI drives, up to 16GB RAM and/or NVIDIA’s Quadro and AMD’s FireGL cards. More information about Alienware’s new systems can be found at Alienware’s GDC 2007 site.
