Alienware is perhaps best known for its extreme gaming rigs, but it seems there are plans for more than that; monitors. It’s not just any monitor though, as Alienware recently unveiled a concept for a panorama monitor sporting a 2880×900 pixel resolution. The same as two 19″ widescreen monitors with 1440×900 resolution. The creation by Alienware is a lot different from most other LCD-based panorama solutions we’ve previously seen. Then it’s just been a matter of placing LCD panels next to each other, but here Alienware has designed the monitor from scratch to create a seamless panorama experience.
The curved design of the monitor makes it look like you actually have three monitors in front of you, but according to the people over at Engadget, who’ve seen the monitor in real life, the picture looks like being split into four parts. The monitor is not an LCD either, but based on DLP technology, which is often used in big screen TVs and projectors.
“The curvature of the 2880 x 900 rez screen mimics peripheral vision, and in action the performance seemed pretty flawless to our Crysis-dazzled eyes (official specs report less than .02-millisecond response time).”
The panorama concept by Alienware looks quite exciting for the hardcore gamer, but first of all we should wait for the monitor to be actually launched. Not to mention wait for the price of this thing to be announced, especially as Alienware has no issues with charging quite a lot of money for their products.
At Engadget there are more pictures and a video presentation of the Alienware panorama display.
