There have been a lot of focus on Intel lately after their announcement of the new mobile processor technology Centrino. AMD did not get the same amount of attention when announcing 12 new mobile processors on CeBIT in Hannover. The 12 new mobile processors called AMD XP-M is divided into three categories, “Desktop replacement”, “Standard” and “Low-voltage” to cover the three types of notebook computers on the market today.
The main news is the five low-voltage chips with the names 1400+ to 1800+. These new processors use the Micro PGA design which is smaller than Socket A allowing notebook manufactures to build smaller systems. With a maximum power consumption of 25 watts it will be a great competitor to Intel’s low-voltage processors.
In the categories “Desktop replacement” and “Standard” AMD has chosen processors with Thoroughbred and Barton cores with the speeds 2000+ to 2600+.
This seems really interesting and could be a big threat to Intel’s Pentium 4-M.
