Athlon 64 X2 3600+ has been available on the OEM market for Socket 939, but now it seems that AMD will also launch this introduction model for Socket AM2 and then perhaps even for the regular retail market. X2 3600+ is working at 2.0GHz, just as the sibling X2 3800+, but to lower manufacturing costs and thus store prices AMD has halved the cache to 2x256KB, from 2x512KB for 3800+. The main target with X2 3600+ is Intel’s coming Pentium D 915/925 processors, which will become Intel’s new budget models on the dual-core market when Pentium D 805 is phased out. Exactly what AMD will charge for X2 3600+ is uncertain, but the processor is expected to be launched during the fourth quarter.
