AMD has started shipping its first 65nm processors and even if we regular consumers will have to wait a few more weeks it’s always interesting to see how well AMD has done with its new manufacturing process. At Tech Report they’ve published a short article about the new Athlon 64 X2 processors, an article where they’ve focused on the new 65nm processors’ power consumption and overclocking capabilities and then compared them to the older ones made with a 90nm process. AMD has managed to reduce the power consumption and will lower its manufacturing costs thanks to the new 65nm process, but at the same time it is a far from revolutionizing update of the 90nm core.

But its still the first revision of the 65nm core and we’re convinced that AMD will tune and tweak the core even further the upcoming period.

“If you’re looking to by an Athlon 64 X2, then I’d definitely try to grab the 65nm version, but don’t expect miracles from it.”
