AMD has shifted gear in the development of new and more energy efficient processors and now new information about the AMD BE-2xxx series has surfaced, a new dual-core model of Athlon 64 X2 with a refined 65nm process that will have a TDP at 45W, which can be compared to the 65W of the current X2 processors. OCWorkbench have gotten their hands on one of AMD’s new processors and fitted it into one of its test systems. The not yet launched processor is verified by CPU-Z as Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor BE-2350 and is working at 2.1GHz (10.5x). The operating voltage is very low 1.15V and will be one of the keys to the lower power consumption.

Except from the lower power consumption, the new processors based on the Brisbane core will use a new naming system. Exactly when the new new processors will appear and how much they will cost, remains to be seen.

“From what we gathered, AMD is also changing its branding of this new processors, the BE-2XXX series. They won’t be called Athlon 64 X2. Instead it will be known as Athlon X2 Dual Core. The “64” is dropped. No reasons were given for dropping the “64”.”
